ABOUT US

Our story begins in 1859 when Sophia Ives Campbell donated the land on which St Paul’s now meets and a fund to support local ministry. Originally the church met in the small hall that sits besides Canterbury Rd and which became Canterbury’s first school (now located across the road), but in 1860 the church moved into it’s first proper building designed by the popular colonial architect Edmund Blackett.

Over the years Canterbury has gone through a lot of changes and so has St Paul’s, but in God’s grace that initial seed that Sophia Ives Campbell planted has continued to bear fruit. Today St Paul’s has three congregations, a service meeting at 9:30am, a Mongolian service at 12:00pm and an evening congregation meeting at 5:00pm.

St Paul’s is a lively Anglican church in the Evangelical tradition that is committed to sharing Jesus and serving the people of Canterbury and Hurlstone Park. We like to say that we’re ‘A Church for All People’. Across the week you’ll find all sorts of different people from all sorts of different cultures gathering for church, participating in our mobile food pantry, or connecting in with one of our many kids programs.

Everyone is welcome to join and participate in this active community at the heart of Canterbury and Hurlstone Park.
